Mind over Matter: Understand Secrets and Power of Patanjali's TeachingsThe Age of Patanjali, the Father of Yoga, has just started. During the Golden Age, which is starting from 2012 onwards, we will recognize him as the greatest scientist.Patanjali is very very precise. The proper way to use Patanjali is to use his own words. His text is called the Yoga Sutras. The Sutras are very tiny phrases. Patanjali does not use many words, he uses only very few words to explain certain concepts. But, his use of language is everything because, according to Patanjali, creation itself is using language. You just speaking something and you create it.You create a psychological reality and also a material reality. Usually what happens, in human understanding, the psychological reality which is uni-dimensional is not the physical reality. For instance, 'home' is a word and it is different from the real home, the three-dimensional reality. But, for Patanjali and also for the angels, there is no difference between the idea and the object. The idea and the object collapse at a higher level of consciousness, and a sophisticated level of language is necessary to bring them together. This is what happens in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras; he uses language in a very sophisticated way. For him to say something is not to explain a concept or simply confined to the meaning aspect of it, but also to create the reality itself in a material way.For example, he says 'Yogaschittavritti Nirodhah' means -- Yoga is stopping the mind. You can say that in any language, the meaning of it, but nothing will happen. You will understand that it means stopping the mind, but you will not stop the mind. But, to say over and over again 'Yogaschittavritti Nirodhah' in a certain way which he recommends, then you can create the reality. So, he comes with a very, very sophisticated technique called 'Samyama'. Although people are familiar with the term 'Samyama', but not many people have understood the proper way of doing 'Samyama'.'Samyama' is one meditation in which 3 meditations are involved, the first he called 'Dharana'. 'Dharana' is concentrating on just one object without any interruption. How can you do it? If you use the Sutra of Patanjali 'Desh Bandhasyaa Chittasya Dharana' still thoughts will come and go. But, then at a point because of the power of Patanjali's consciousness to use words in a sophisticated way, you will certainly go and create the Dharana, which is concentration without interruption of other thoughts. That is Step 1.Step 2 is further delving deep into the object concentration where you go to a 'Pratyaya' stage which is the object being reduced to a more subtle level. That he calls as 'Dhyana' -- Ektanata Dhyanam. You are completely focusing attention on a subtle level, the Pratyaya level of the object. Then, you go to the 3rd level which is the most important level, which he calls as 'Samadhi' -- there is no subject different from the object. Then, you go to the 3rd level which is the most important level, which he calls as 'Samadhi' -- there is no subject, there is only the object. You concentrate on the object completely without the 'I' consciousness without your 'self'; there is no soul involved in it, there is no mind. But, only one thing is out there. What is that? The object -- Artha Matra Nirbhashanam Swaroopa Shoonyam - only the object exists, only the object is shining, there is no mind, no soul, no consciousness involved. So, what happens is that completely your consciousness goes into the object that results in understanding the object totally. It is as if only the object exists and you don't exist, and that is complete concentration which he calls as Samadhi. So, when you combine all these three, he calls the technique as 'Samyama'. Samyama is -- Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi -- the three steps together. When you do this Samyama technique, then you can do anything that you want on earth. A number of Siddhi Powers that he teaches like -- how to become invisible, how to know the future, how to go into somebody else's body, how to disappear, how to fly in the air -- all these techniques he calls them as Vibhutis or Siddhi Powers. They can be done when you do a Samyama on that.
